Helen Fukiko (Awa) Nozaki, aged 94, passed away peacefully at home on January 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born on March 21st, 1931, the youngest of seven children, and raised in the town of Kekaha on the beautiful island of Kauai.
In 1949, she graduated as valedictorian from Kaimuki High School, where her classmates knew her as kind and caring to everyone she met. She briefly attended the University of Hawaii, but her adventurous spirit led her to California, where she met and married the “love of her life”, David Nozaki, in 1963. They went on to raise two children, and built a life together that was filled with cherished memories in the city of Gardena. She was also a dedicated employee for almost 20 years at Sears Roebuck in Torrance, where she was known for her warm smile and generous heart.
Helen enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, such as traveling, shopping, and spending time with friends and family. She especially enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, where she loved the excitement of the casinos and the delicious buffets. She also loved going to Disneyland, where she shared magical days with her beloved granddaughter, Taylor.
Helen is predeceased by her husband, David Nozaki, and her six siblings. She is lovingly survived by her daughter Irene (Ichikawa), son Warren Nozaki, son-in-law Mitchell Ichikawa, granddaughter Taylor, and a wide circle of cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Her legacy of compassion and generosity will live on, such as her favorite holiday tradition of giving everyone “a little something”, a small but heartfelt gesture that made each family member feel special.
Helen will be inurned with her husband at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes at a private service with immediate family only on January 28, 2026.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 2115 W. 182nd Street, Torrance, CA 90504 on March 7, 2026, at 2:00PM. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring Helen’s legacy. Casual or Aloha attire is encouraged, reflecting her warm and easygoing spirit.
Her gentle presence, generous heart, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the stories told, the memories held close, and the lives she touched.
