Gregory Robert Morton

October 20, 1937 – April 25, 2026

Greg Morton, born October 20, 1937, in San Francisco, California, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026. He was the beloved son of Bessie and Hank Morton and was raised in Fresno, California. Here he developed the strong work ethic and easygoing spirit that would define his life.

Greg attended Fresno High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Fresno State, later continuing coursework at USC. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves for 20 years, retiring after a distinguished period of service. His professional life included many endeavors, notably his work with Caltrans, as well as farming grapes, pistachios, and oranges—work he took great pride in.

A defining moment in Greg’s life came in 1960, when he met the love of his life, Doris, at a college mixer dance that brought together students from UCLA, USC, and Caltech. Their connection was immediate and enduring. They were married on August 20, 1966, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love, adventure, and shared experiences. They built a life together, and raised their daughter, Michele.

Following their college years, Greg and Doris, along with a group of close friends, became actively involved in the Optimist Club, specifically the International Pacific Southeast Division. Their efforts were focused on supporting a boys’ home in Pasadena, which in later years grew to serve both boys and girls and provided continued support for young people aging out of the foster care system. Greg’s dedication to the organization grew over time, and he went on to serve as Governor and then President from 1990-1992.

Greg and Doris shared a passion for travel that took them across the globe. Over the years, they visited an incredible 143 countries, with a particular fondness for Asia. Their travels began early in their marriage and became a central part of their life together. Once Michele was deemed old enough to remember the travels, the three of them took trips all over the world.

For many years while Michele was growing up, the family enjoyed annual ski trips to Lake Tahoe with close family friends—memories that remained especially meaningful. He later spent many happy times in Mammoth Lakes, skiing and enjoying the mountains with family and friends. Greg looked forward to fishing trips with Doris and close friends, especially their trips to Cabo. At home, he enjoyed woodworking, creating projects that showcased both his skill and his patience.

The next milestone in Greg’s life was the marriage of his only daughter, Michele. Michele and her husband, Matt, joined Greg and Doris on some of their travels, creating lasting family memories together. The arrival of grandchildren, Keira and Dylan, brought even greater joy to Greg’s life and the introduction of Disney cruises. The whole family took a cruise to the Caribbean, Alaska, and Japan, a couple of trips to Hawaii, and a road trip to Arizona and New Mexico. Whether traveling abroad or enjoying time closer to home, Greg found his greatest happiness in being surrounded by those he loved.

Greg is survived by his beloved wife, Doris; his daughter, Michele, and her husband Matt; his grandchildren, Keira and Dylan; and extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

A life so richly lived leaves behind a legacy of love, memories, and inspiration that will endure for generations.

After the service and burial, we invite you to join us for a meal at a Chinese restaurant about 10 minutes away. Please contact Michele at (310) 292-7392 for the details. We would appreciate a head count by Tuesday, May 26th.
