Garry Helms

Garry Maurice Helms, born to Mary and Curtis Helms on February 1, 1947, passed away in San Pedro, California, on January 11, 2025. Garry was a long-time resident of San Pedro and attended Dodson Middle School and San Pedro High School. Classmates recall his athleticism in track and field, his talent in theater arts, his sense of humor, and charming smile. Upon graduation in 1965, he traveled across the United States. Garry returned to San Pedro and began working in 1982 for an automotive distribution company now known as Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL). He retired in 2023 after forty-one years of service. Garry leaves behind his life partner Candace Smith, brother Edward Helms, sister Pat Goff, numerous nieces and nephews, and their families. He is a beloved patriarch of the Smith and Tompkins families. Garry enjoyed long-standing friendships with his colleagues at WWL and members of the San Pedro community. The Memorial Service for Garry will be Monday, February 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Green Hills Memorial Chapel of the Mortuary At Green Hill, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes.
