It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Garland Alley, a longtime resident of the South Bay, who has gone home to be with the Lord.
Garland was born in 1946 in San Antonio, Texas, and moved with his family to Redondo Beach in 1947. He is survived by his two siblings, Danny Alley and Susan Hyduke.
He attended Aviation High School in Redondo Beach and graduated with the class of 1964. Garland proudly volunteered to serve in the United States Army from 1966 to 1972. He joined the Special Forces and the 101st Airborne Division. He also completed medic training and was awarded several medals for his service, including the Bronze Star.
Following his military service, Garland built a long and respected career as a high-voltage electrician and supervisor, spending 40 years with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Despite a demanding work schedule and the responsibilities of fatherhood, he faithfully volunteered his skills to support his church and international mission projects—helping to build churches, women’s shelters, and orphanages.
Garland met his wife, Judy, in 1973, and they were married in 1974. They remained a devoted and loving couple for 51 years. Together they raised three children: Ava, Leslie, and Grant Alley. Garland was also the proud grandfather of three grandsons—Cooper, Brody, and Dillon—who brought him endless joy.
He passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Garland will be dearly missed.
