Fred Raymond Miller, 83, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026 at his home in Lomita, California.
Fred was born on October 2, 1942 in New York to Fred and Margaret Miller. He attended Trinity College and participated in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, then served in the United States Air Force from 1964-1968, retiring as a Captain.
On a visit to a base in Middletown, Pennsylvania while serving in 1966, Fred met Carolyn Palmer and the pair quickly fell in love. Fred and Carolyn were married on February 11, 1967, and enjoyed a wonderful 58 years of marriage. After living in multiple cities around the country while Fred was serving in the military, the pair decided to settle down in Los Angeles, California and start their family. Fred and Carolyn had two sons, and Fred became a computer programmer until his retirement in 1995.
Fred loved to travel and was lucky to see so much of the world. He shared stories about a road trip he took around the country with his parents as a child, seeing many cities in the United States. Fred went on a 9-week adventure to nine European countries with his college roommates, exploring places like Greenland, Iceland, and Germany. His most treasured memories were trips he took with Carolyn to places like Fiji, Tahiti, and Australia, and even a family trip to Hawaii to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and renew their vows, a special moment shared with their children and grandchildren.
Fred enjoyed sports throughout his whole life. He was a fan of the Anaheim Angels, LA Kings, and the Rams, but was especially dedicated to the Dodgers. Fred enjoyed playing and watching golf as well. He was so invested that he was often found to be watching two, or even three, different sports events on different devices at the same time, never missing a chance to cheer on his favorite teams or players.
Most of all, Fred was incredibly devoted to his wife, Carolyn. The pair were an inseparable duo, always together and perfectly complimenting each other. Fred’s family and loved ones look up to their marriage and partnership as one to strive for. Fred will be truly missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Fred is survived by his wife, Carolyn, son, Brian and his wife Michelle, and son Eric and his wife Jennifer, as well as his grandchildren, Alexandra, Christopher, and Joseph.
Fred’s graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 9:00 am at Green Hills Cemetery in Ranchos Palos Verdes, CA.
