Frank Mannino passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2024. He was born on April 14, 1942, in Manhattan, NY, to Pete and Anna Mannino. In 1953, at the age of 11, Frank moved with his family to San Pedro, CA. Although he was initially reluctant to leave New York and his friends behind, he quickly embraced the West Coast lifestyle.
After graduating from San Pedro High School, Frank enlisted in the United States Air Force, got married and then was stationed in France. He made many new friends while maintaining lifelong connections with those back home. He was a great father to his two sons, Frankie and Michael. Frank worked in the harbor area at various trucking companies, including alongside his father at Signal Trucking, before joining the ILWU in 1979. He was a proud and dedicated member of Locals 13, 63, and 94.
While working at SSA, Frank met his wife of 26 years, Becky. During their first lunch date, they made a deal—Frank would learn to play golf, and Becky would learn to ride motorcycles. This arrangement blossomed into a shared love of new hobbies and adventures.
Frank had a passion for raising German Shorthaired Pointers and spent many years hunting with his best friends and his beloved dogs. His most recent dog, Bella, misses him deeply. Frank also enjoyed traveling, visiting family in Italy and Greece, and embarking on five cruises. He fished in Sitka, Alaska, took cross-country road trips to visit U.S. National Parks, and played golf across almost every state. His love for exploration also took him to Hawaii, Canada, and both the East and West Coasts.
After retiring, Frank enjoyed 11 years of well-earned rest, with the last four years spent in Las Vegas, NV. There, he played golf 2-3 times a week, kept fit at the gym, read books, watched old movies, and, of course, indulged in some gambling.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Frankie and Michael, his grandson Jordon and his brother Peter. He is survived by his loving wife Becky, sister Joanne Mannino, granddaughter Jessica, stepson Billy, and his extended family of grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are to be held at Green Hills Mortuary on October 12th at 11:30am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, or San Pedro Pet Pals in his memory.
