Frances Winifred Sharar of Rancho Palos Verdes passed away on November 16, 2024. She suffered from Parkinson’s disease and passed peacefully at home with family. She was 82. Frances was born on October 21, 1942, in San Pedro, California, to Paul and Vinka Petrasich, both first-generation Croatians. She attended Dana Junior High and graduated from San Pedro High School, Class of 1960. On October 5, 1963, Frances married Joe Sharar, a fellow San Pedro Croatian. She was a proud and devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother when raising her four sons during their early years. During her varied working career, she was secretary to the manager of Bank of America, supervisor of the secretarial staff at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, and assistant to brokers at the Smith Barney investment firm. A closet gambler — not the Las Vegas type — she got her fix dabbling in the stock market. She was predeceased by her parents Paul and Vinka Petrasich, and brother Matthew. In addition to her husband Joe, Frances is survived by her four sons: Joey and partner Nancy, Mark and wife Cindy, Paul and wife Charlie, and Matt and wife Diane; her four grandchildren: London, Jake, Quentin and Lola; close and caring family friend Liana Drake; and her loving caregiver, Maya Manansala. A memorial service will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park on Monday, November 25, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, an in-memory donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s disease research would be appreciated.
