Evelyn Mason Greene passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, in her on home at the age of 102. She is remembered as a vivacious, outgoing and loving mother, homemaker, and friend. She is survived by her son Dr. Robert Greene, a cardiologist, married to Katy, their son David and Evelyn’s great-grand children, Jaden, Jenna and Jamie. Her younger son, Donald Greene, works as an optician in Playa del Rey.
She was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. During WW2 Evelyn worked as a secretary on the Manhattan Project. While also working as a counselor in a NY summer camp, she met and later married Sidney Greene. After the war, Sid choose a career in the USAF led them to many states. They finally settled in California in 1956 where he retired as a colonel and later worked for McDonnell Douglas.
Evelyn and Sid were active temple members, first at Temple Menorah and later at Congregation Ner Tamid. She loved her home in Rancho Palos Verdes, entertaining and always loved having her children around. Our family has many memories of beach and park outings, art projects, rides to baseball practices, and dinner at home at the end of the day.
Evelyn balanced family life with community service and work. She was a volunteer in the sisterhood, and often served as president of the Peninsula garden and book clubs. She worked as a Director of a nursery school and as an executive business secretary in Palos Verdes. When Sid died in 1998 they had been married more than 54 years.
She was fortunate to enjoy good health most of her life and met the challenges of aging with a positive attitude. She credited her long life to a heart-healthy diet, a joyful outlook, and the devoted support of her wonderful caregivers- Myrna, Melissa, Novie, and Daisy. One of her favorite stories to share was how she danced at her 100th birthday with our cousin, Kevin Goetz.
She will be buried at Green Hills Memorial Park 3:00pm Wednesday, August 27, 2025. Rabbi Graetz will preside over her service.
