Esther Castillo, lovingly known as “Grandma,” passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, in Gardena, California, at the age of 95, surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born on February 4, 1931, in Masaya, Nicaragua. Esther lived a life deeply rooted in faith, family, and kindness. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, as well as a cherished friend to many. Her greatest gift was her ability to bring people together, making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved through her warmth, generosity, and thoughtful guidance.

Esther was an incredibly talented seamstress and designer. She was especially known for creating beautiful custom dresses for baptisms, quinceañeras, weddings, and other special occasions. Each piece she made reflected her care, creativity, and love, leaving behind a legacy truly stitched with devotion.

She also expressed her love through cooking, filling her home with the comforting aromas and traditions of shared meals that brought her family together time and time again. Esther was known for her unfiltered nature, speaking her mind with honesty and heart, a quality that made her both memorable and deeply authentic. She brought humor and laughter wherever she went, lifting spirits and leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Esther loved chocolate in all its forms, including ice cream, candy apples, and cake, just to name a few. She enjoyed spending time with her family, trips to Las Vegas, and listening to Spanish music, often singing along with her beautiful voice. Her joyful spirit and love of life will be deeply missed.

Esther is survived by her daughters, Sandra Berrios and Silvana Berrios, nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor her legacy of love and generosity. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro Castillo and Zoila Amoretti, her siblings, Ramon Castillo, Maria Teresa Castillo, Zoila Castillo, and Norma Norman, and her son, Luis Berrios.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
