Delia Sepulveda was born in East Los Angeles to Mike and Irene Medina. She has two sisters, Gloria and Helen, and a brother, Dicky. In her early adult years, she moved to San Pedro to live with her Nina, Aurora Puertas. While living there and hanging out with friends—cruising on Pacific Avenue—she met Benny Sepulveda. After dating for a while, Benny asked her father Mike if he could have her hand in marriage. His reply: “HER HAND… TAKE ALL OF HER” (she was a bit of a rebel and party girl). They went on to have three children: Irene, Becky, and Benny Jr. Later in life, they became grandparents to Irene and Sterrie Jr.’s (Mac) three children—Sterrie III (spouse Misti), Bryan, and Korinna—Benny and Rebecca’s children, Brittney (spouse Spencer) and Natalie, and Benny’s eldest daughter, Selina. They also have ten great-grandchildren: Breana, Sterrie IV, Kennedy, Ella, Ethan, Presley (aka “curly top” to Delia), Cash, Sammy, Koa, and Emylia.
In her early career, Delia worked for Gordon Sea Foods in Wilmington. Later she worked for Weber Millbrook Bakery Thrift Store until she retired in 1997. After that, she started managing the apartments in San Pedro where she lived for several years until she finally retired.
Delia is survived by her two daughters, six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny; her son, Benny Jr.; her sister, Helen; and her brother, Dicky.
