Danny Gerald Cook was born in Los Angeles, California, on April 27, 1952. Many knew Danny as “Twin,”“Mr. Danny,” “Dano,” or “Cook.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Beaggerie and Virginia Cook; his twin brother, David George Cook; and sister, Brenda Cook.
Danny accepted the Lord and was baptized at an early age. He was a proud member of Mt. Olive Church of God in Christ under Pastor E. B. Steward.
Danny started school at 99th Elementary School and attended Gompers Jr. High School. While at Gompers, he received awards in 1967 for Outstanding Athlete of the Year and Boys’ League Boy of the Year. Danny attended John C. Fremont High School and later transferred to Alain LeRoy Locke High School. He was very athletic. Danny participated in many sports. His favorite sport was baseball. Danny was a high school All-American in baseball. He was known for “hitting the ball out of the park.” Upon graduating from Locke High School in 1969, Danny received a scholarship to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Due to Danny’s health issues, he was unable to continue his education with MIT.
Some years later, Danny, under the guidance of his uncle Fred Young, went into an apprenticeship program in construction. Years later, he was hired by the U.S. Post Office and later retired. Danny was truly talented in many facets of construction work.

After a long illness, Danny passed away at home on July 9, 2026, in Carson, California. He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his homegoing his beloved wife, Sheila, of forty-four years; daughter, Alisha Nishawn Cooksey; granddaughter, Aliyah Lené-Michelle Bey; brother, Gregory Cook (Nona); sister, Barbara Cochran; nieces, Tiffany Cochran, Tommorrie Cook, and Ebony Libby; nephews, cousins, many other relatives, special friends, Locke High alumni, Caron Circle neighbors, custom cars, Classic Car Club, and business partners.
