Charly Abyad was born on December 2, 1941, in Jerusalem, Palestine, to Elias and Evdokia Abyad, as the second of five siblings.
On January 23, 1966, he married his beloved wife, Nabiha. Together, they nurtured a family of four children: Gladis, Nancy, Elias, and Johnny. To this day, they have been blessed with 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
In Jerusalem, Charly worked as a printer for about 5 years before relocating to America in 1974. There, he began his career at Micro Dot Press, dedicating approximately 15 years to the role. Afterward, he and Nabiha purchased an ice cream truck, enjoying this venture for 17 years.
Charly's courtship of Nabiha began in 1963 when he was immediately smitten. He sent her letters while she lived in Italy, and as Nabiha humorously recalled, "he was bugging me." In 1965, he had his parents approach her family to ask for her hand in marriage, and they were wed in 1966, cherishing 60 wonderful years together.
Charly had a passion for taking pictures and developing them. He would create collages in various shapes. As the years went by, developing pictures turned into printing pictures. Printing those photos for everyone to enjoy filled him with happiness, knowing they would treasure those memories together.
Charly had a profound love for taking his family on adventures, especially to places with water. In Jerusalem, they would visit the waterfalls, the Dead Sea, and the Sukhneh. In America, they explored locations such as the Redondo Beach Pier, Las Vegas, various local theme parks, and the swap meets.
As his children grew, so did his family, filling his heart with joy. He cherished his roles as both a grandfather and a great-grandfather, savoring every moment spent with his grandchildren. Outings to the 99-cent store, Redondo Beach Pier, swap meets, and other special places brought him immense happiness and created lasting memories.
