It is with great joy and mourning that we say goodbye, for now, to our beloved mother, Celsa Garcia Gutierrez, who peacefully passed to be with her lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 15, 2025, at her home of 73 years in Wilmington, California.
She was born on a farm to Francisco and Ventura Garcia in the rural outskirts of Penjamillo, Michoacan, Mexico, on May 27, 1922. They were generational farmers and ranchers and for the first 23 years of her life, mom played and lived in the rugged beauties of hills, valleys, irrigation waterways, ponds, cows, crops of corn and wheat (lots of them), goats, pigs , chickens, horses and in the abiding virtues of a strong rural work ethic.
It was in this rustic setting that mom met our dad, Piedad Moreno Gutierrez, who also grew up in the same local area. They married on February 20, 1945, and nine months later she gave birth to their first-born daughter Rosalie. Shortly after in January of 1946, they immigrated to the United States to begin their new life together, settling in Wilmington, California. The family would grow to twelve children with many grand and great-grandchildren.
Mom loved the lord Jesus and spoke of Him often. She was a regular attender of Christian church fellowship as often as she could get transportation there. Praying and reading her bible were her daily delight.
Mom also loved her children and though she was of the strict cultural generation where "children are to be seen but not heard", she along with our dad worked hard to ensure that they were clothed, fed, and had a roof over their head, this they did faithfully to the end.
Our dear mother will be sorely missed but some will see her again. In lieu of flowers it would be a prayer and a wish of moms that you consider the words and acts of Jesus in the bible and put your faith in Him. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever would believe in Him should not perish but have everlasting life". (John 3:16)
