Carmela D'Ambra Gioiello was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and Zia who passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, surrounded by the family she cherished. Born on September 11, 1934, in Ischia, Italy. Carmela was the daughter of Luigi D'Ambra and Anna Cigliano, and one of six siblings: Giovanni, Antonio, Salvatore, Cirella, and Maria. Growing up on the island, she was shaped by strong family values, cherished traditions, and a deep love for her homeland. In 1955, Carmela married Domenico Gioiello and immigrated to California, where the couple settled in San Pedro and raised five children: Anita, Vito, Luigi John, Diane Marie, and GeriLynn. Family was the center of Carmela's world. She poured her heart into raising her children, tending her garden, attending church, and giving generously of her time through volunteering and a love of travel. She also helped raise her grandchildren Kristy, David, Danielle, Dominique, Jessica, Analisa, Gabriella, Bridget, and John Luigi, and delighted in her great-grandchildren: Emma, Vienna, Nathan, Piper, Dominic, Paul, and Matteo. Carmela will be remembered for her boundless love, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and her faith. Her memory lives in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.
