Bruce was a resident of Rancho Palos Verdes for over 50 years. He was born in a Navy hospital in Bremerton, WA, to Navy Captain Herbert Campbell and Geraldine Hyde on November 18, 1937. Bruce was later adopted by Grace Ann Campbell, Herbert’s second wife.

In 1956, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy and after his service he was honorably discharged. Subsequently, he enrolled at San Diego State University and succeeded in earning an Electrical Engineering degree (BSE) with Honors with Distinction in Engineering. In 1964, Bruce earned a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) from Stanford University. He also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at USC. He started employment at the Aerospace Corporation as a Member of the Technical Staff (MTS) in the Control Systems Department where he performed control system studies.

In 1966, Bruce married Benita and started a family of two daughters and a son. They would settle in Rancho Palos Verdes.

He worked on the Manned Orbiting Laboratory Program and the NASA Studies Directorate. He also worked on the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) and participated in the launch of the second DMSP satellite. He was promoted to Systems Director of the Resource Analysis Directorate where he directed the efforts of employees in the performance of cost analyses of Air Force Satellite and Ground Systems.

In 1981, he transferred to the Milstar Communication Satellite Program Office where he became the Milstar Spacecraft Director of the system engineering and integration efforts performing such functions as attitude control, auxiliary propulsion, electrical power, telemetry and command, thermal control, and structure in support of the payload. Bruce participated in the launches of the first five Milstar satellites.

Bruce was active in the Aerospace Professional Staff Association (APSA, an independent labor union at Aerospace) and became APSA President. Through his leadership, APSA successfully resisted the acquisition of the Aerospace Corporation by the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC).

Before he retired, he transferred to the Advanced Extremely High Frequency Communication Program Office where he performed AEHF satellite launch and early orbit operation studies. After 42 years of successful employment by The Aerospace Corporation, Bruce retired.

In addition to his intellectual pursuits, some of his hobbies were running marathons, photography, and Judo. He was a voracious reader in the areas of history, politics, economics, Word War II, and more.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Benita, his daughters Debbie, Michele, his son, Brian, and his two granddaughters Jade, Violet, his younger brothers Alan, Robert, David and his dog Sophie.
