Brian Edward Herbster, age 24, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at their home in Long Beach, CA, surrounded by their loving wife, Emma, and their immediate family and pets. Brian faced a year-long battle with Ewing sarcoma.
There will be events in California, New York, and Florida to celebrate Brian’s life. A wake will be held from 5-8:30PM on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Green Hills Mortuary & Memorial Chapel (27501 S Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275). Brian was multi-faceted and multi-talented: a dedicated sailing coach; a skilled astrophysicist; a wonderful listener and friend; a nature and music lover; a leader and family man.
After graduating from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a degree in Astronomy and Astrophysics in 2023, Brian and Emma moved to Long Beach, CA, where Brian fulfilled the dream of becoming a professional sailing coach at Alamitos Bay Yacht Club (ABYC).
Brian Edward Herbster is survived by their wife, Emma Rosson, parents, Chris and Lisa Herbster, sister and brother-in-law, Caroline Herbster and Chase Lynch, grandfather and grandmother, Alfred Scherzer and Debbie Robertaccio, as well as many family members including aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends, students, and of course their dog and cat - Hubble and Gaia.
Brian is deeply loved and dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, a sailing scholarship fund will be started in Brian’s name. Donations can be sent to: https://gofund.me/365a120fa
