In Loving Memory of Brandon Cathey

October 6, 1982 – October 26, 2026

With profound sadness and immeasurable love, we announce the passing of Brandon Cathey, who left this world on October 26, 2026, at the age of 44, after a courageous and lengthy battle with systemic lupus and kidney disease.

Born and raised in Torrance, California, Brandon attended South High School and went on to become a skilled electrician, a trade he learned from his father, whom he deeply admired. Brandon took great pride in his work and possessed a remarkable ability to solve problems and understand how things worked. He was endlessly curious, often taking things apart and putting them back together simply to understand how they worked. Brandon had a natural gift for troubleshooting complex issues and a mind that never stopped learning.

Of all the roles Brandon held in his life, none meant more to him than being a father. Becoming a dad to his son, Jake McPeak, was the proudest and most cherished moment of his life. Jake was Brandon's favorite person in the world, and nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with him, watching him grow, and teaching him anything and everything with remarkable patience and attention to detail. The bond they shared was extraordinary, and Brandon's love for his son knew no bounds.

Brandon was a loving, kind, and gentle soul whose heart was open to everyone. He was hardworking, generous, humble, and selfless, always willing to help others without expecting anything in return. Smart and knowledgeable, he somehow seemed to know a little something about everything. No matter the topic of conversation, Brandon always had an interesting fact, a story, or a piece of wisdom to share, making every conversation richer and more memorable. Even during the most difficult days of his illness, he remained stoic and resilient, rarely complaining about his struggles. Instead, he focused on the people he loved and the moments that brought him joy.

Those who knew Brandon will remember his wonderful sense of humor. He was funny, goofy, and knew exactly how to make people laugh. He had a gift for bringing lightness into any situation and making ordinary moments unforgettable. His presence made every gathering a little brighter.

Family was at the center of Brandon's life. He cherished growing up in a home where the door was always open, where family and friends gathered often, where weekly dinners were a tradition, and where vacations created memories that would last a lifetime. His family was his tribe, his source of strength, and his greatest blessing. He especially loved the holiday season and the family gatherings that brought everyone together.

Brandon also found happiness in the simple pleasures of life: camping trips in the desert with family, dirt bike rides, days spent at the lake boating and riding Sea-Doos, and sharing laughter with the people he loved most. He had a sweet tooth for vanilla ice cream covered in rainbow sprinkles and was known for keeping a drawer full of candy that his nieces and nephews happily raided whenever they visited.

Brandon is lovingly survived by his son, Jake McPeak; his mother, Eleanore Cathey; his father, Fred S. Cathey and his wife, Bonita; his sister, Danielle Paszternak and her husband, Chad; his brother, Fred C. Cathey and his wife, Paula; his niece, Julia Dahl and her husband, Brandon; his nephew, Vincent Rios; his niece, Brooklyn Cathey; his nephew, Shane Cathey; and his niece, Sophia Cathey. He also leaves behind his beloved grandmother, Eldora Cathey, along with an uncle, many aunts, cousins, and lifelong friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness and friendship.

Although our hearts are broken by his passing, we take comfort in the love Brandon gave so freely and the memories he leaves behind. His strength, generosity, humor, and unwavering devotion to family will remain with us always. His legacy lives on in his son, in the lessons he shared, in the laughter he inspired, and in the love he gave so generously. Brandon's life reminds us that true greatness is found not in what we accumulate, but in how deeply we love and care for others. He will be profoundly missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

Rest easy, Brandon. Your love, laughter, and spirit will remain in our hearts forever. ♥
