Ben passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He lived his life to the fullest. Ben was born in Los Angeles. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1951, and served in the Naval Air Force during the Korean War.
Ben married Janet Vowles, the love of his life, on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1956. They enjoyed sixty- one incredible years together. Ben worked as a linotype operator, beginning his career at the Culver City Star News. His career spanned fifty-three years, culminating in the digital age with freelance work.
Ben was a Past Master of the Los Angeles Harbor Masonic Lodge #332, and a 32 degree Shriner. He also was an avid tennis player and fan. He loved his home, family, and friends.
In addition to his wife, Janet, Ben is survived by his children Penny Manisco (Joe) of Upland, Kellee King (Bob) of Long Beach, and Chad (Christi) of Lomita. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Matthew, Kacie, and Brett Manisco, Ryan and Collin King, and Charlotte Ponder.
Services will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, April 27 at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children Hospital Los Angeles, or Shriners' Hospital for Children.
