Barbara Ann Mendoza, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in San Pedro, California, on August 6, 2025. She was 77 years old.

She was born as Barbara Ann Chavis on February 11, 1948, in Lumberton, North Carolina, and was a proud member of the Lumbee Native American Tribe. Her life was rooted in family, resilience, and love- values she carried with her throughout her years.

Barbara dedicated part of her career to serving others, working for the Los Angeles School District as a special aide assistant. She also co-operated Mando Man’s Tacoland in her younger years, where her warm personality and welcoming spirit shined.

Family was always the center of Barbara’s world. She was a gracious hostess who brought loved ones together for holidays and celebrations, always filling her home with laughter, delicious meals, and warmth. Barbara loved to travel, enjoyed dancing and music, and cherished simple pleasures like having her hair and nails done or sharing a good glass of wine. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother whose love knew no limits.

Barbara was a breast cancer survivor who faced life’s challenges with strength and grace. In her later years, she bravely battled Huntington’s Disease until her passing.

She is survived by her children, Trina Mendoza and Armando Mendoza III; her sisters, Rita Chavis and Linda Brayboy; her grandchildren, Jasiree, Jessica, Krystina, Chase, Jacob, and Aryana; and her great-grandchildren, Maverick, Michael Angelo, and Ezra. She was preceded in death by her son, Tino Mendoza; her parents, Mattie and Abner Chavis; her sister, Virginia Simpson; and her brothers, Abner, Ronnie, and Micheal Chavis.

Barbara’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her hospice team and caregivers, whose compassion and support provided comfort during her final journey.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Green Hills Chapel. Flowers may be sent directly to the chapel in her honor.

Her strength, love, and vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
