Barbara fostered her children’s talents, and gave them a strong moral and spiritual foundation.
Barbara Korthe passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026. She was born on August 29, 1935, in San Pedro, California. Barbara attended San Pedro schools, graduating from San Pedro High School. She then married Naval Officer, Jim Korthe. With the majority of his career spent at sea, Barbara raised their 4 children on her own. She fostered her children’s talents, and gave them a strong moral and spiritual foundation.
In 1975 she brought her family back ‘home’, to San Pedro, when their time with the Navy ended. At that time, Barbara was finally able to reunite with her Sister Noreen, and Brother-In-Law Dennis Lane. The two families developed a strong bond, celebrating major holidays and individual successes over the years. Auntie Barbara was known for her Croatian Sauerkraut, her accordion at Christmas, Bunco, and her dominance at Bowling.
Her love for her son, Jim, knew no bounds, and the two of them shared a unique and special bond. We are comforted to know they are together again.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Katherine Marinkovich, and her son, Jim Korthe. She is survived by her daughters Karen Garcia (Eddie), Julie Stewart, and Lynda Walter (Chris) - Grandsons Anthony Stewart (Diana), Nick Stewart, and Charlie Walter - Great-Grandson Anthony James Stewart – sister Noreen Lane – and beloved Nieces and Nephews. Barbara’s funeral mass will be held on (Saturday) July 25, 10:00 am, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in San Pedro. Interment to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. Rosary on July 24 at 6:30 pm at Green Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Caring House, a not-for-profit Hospice House
