Listen to Obituary

Anita Chau, 84 years young, passed away peacefully at her home in Rolling Hills on November 6, 2025, surrounded by love.

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii with four amazing sisters, Anita survived Pearl Harbor as a newborn — a remarkable beginning to a remarkable life. She went on to achieve extraordinary things, becoming the first Asian American teacher at her first teaching post in Cresskill, New Jersey. Anita later earned her master’s degree from Columbia University, completing the two-year program in just one year and graduating with honors.

Anita devoted her life to education, kindness, and family. She was adored by everyone who knew her — known for her warmth, dependability, humility, and for being, as so many said, “just plain adorable.” She had a gift for making friends wherever she went and a heart big enough to hold them all.

Anita was a beloved wife to her best friend and husband Benjamin and loving mother to her two daughters, Melissa and Kimberly, who loved her immensely. She was also the proud grandmother of Koa and Nixon, and the cherished “grandmom” to her granddog, Apollo.

Anita had a deep connection to Torrance Memorial Medical Center, where her husband performed surgeries and where she later received compassionate care during her hospitalizations. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anita’s memory may be made to Torrance Memorial Medical Center, in gratitude for the exceptional care they provide.
