With love and remembrance, we honor the life of Amy Murakami Shimizu (78 years old), who passed away on December 26, 2025, following an 18 month battle with cancer.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Amy’s family moved to the mainland at the age of 9 and made Los Angeles her home where she built a life defined by service, hard work and kindness. She attended Dorsey High School, earned her B.A. from UCLA, and completed her Master’s Degree in Education from California State University, Los Angeles. Amy devoted 34 years to education and had a tremendous impact on her students as a teacher, coach, counselor and mentor. Most of her career was spent at Venice High School where she taught Physical Education, Coached Tennis, advised the Drill Team, served as Career Counselor and worked as the Foreign Language Magnet Counselor. After retiring, Amy embraced her love of adventure, traveling the world to destinations, including Africa, Australia, Japan, Italy, Russia, Cuba, France, Spain and many others. At home, she found joy in cooking and baking, ceramics, UCLA Football and Dodgers Baseball. Above all, Amy treasured time with her grandchildren, Reggie and AJ, and was known for her thoughtfulness and quiet acts of kindness toward others. Amy’s greatest love was her family. She is survived by her devoted husband Jeff, her sons Aaron and Ryan, Daughter-in-law Robin, sisters Karen, Chris and Tanya and many loved ones whose lives she touched deeply.
